ODDCORE Review โ Chaotic Roguelike FPS with a Liminal Twist
ODDCORE mashes Ultrakill energy with Backrooms creepiness into a frantic roguelike FPS. Short runs, stackable items, a mood-heavy OST that actually changes your run โ a messy, brilliant early access ride.
I jumped into ODDCORE expecting a gimmick and left hooked. Itโs like someone let Ultrakill loose in the Backrooms and sprinkled Risk of Rain chaos on top โ and somehow it works. If you love frantic movement and weird atmospheres, this is worth a look.

Core loop is pure, fast-paced boomer-shooter joy: dash, strafe, blast enemies with 13 unique weapons and tinker with 10 gadgets while stacking more than 70 modifiers that turn runs into ridiculous combos. Maps come as 50+ 'variants' โ short, intense arenas that keep each run feeling fresh โ plus 25 enemy types and boss fights that punish sloppy play. The hub world and arcade add a chill contrast with minigames and unlocks, and the experimental sandbox editor is a nice toy for creative types. Standout: the OST actively modifies runs and you can even import your own tracks, which makes music part of the strategy. Runs are short and brutal (youโre essentially gambling with death every few minutes), so expect high churn and instant restarts. Visually it leans into liminal, retro vibes with neon glitches and a tasteful creepiness. Important caveats: there are flashing effects (photosensitive warning) and a few performance hiccups on low-end rigs โ but on a decent PC the movement and gunfeel are buttery and addictive.

ODDCORE is a chaotic, stylish roguelike FPS that already sings in Early Access โ a must-try for fans of fast movement and weird atmospheres, as long as you mind the flashing effects and early hiccups.

Pros
- Insanely satisfying movement and gunplay โ everything just clicks.
- OST that actually affects runs + option to import your own music โ clever and fun.
- Tons of variety (variants, items, enemies, arcade/hub) that keeps replayability high.
Cons
- Flashing effects can be intense โ photosensitivity warning is real.
- Early Access polish: some FPS/performance issues on low-end PCs and occasional rough edges.
Player Opinion
Players rave about the stylish liminal aesthetic, addictive combat and the OSTโs impact โ many call it 'peakcore' or compare it to Ultrakill x Backrooms x Risk of Rain. Praise is loud for variety, price and polish despite Early Access. Criticisms focus on occasional FPS drops on older machines and the flashing effects. If you like ultraviolent, movement-heavy roguelike shooters, ODDCORE should be on your radar.
